Overall, the four-spotted grasshopper is brown and green, but bears black, ivory, and white markings. The pronotum, when viewed from above, often is marked with two black triangles. Wing length is variable but most often is slightly shorter than the abdomen. Hind femora are banded. The junction of the hind femora and tibiae is blackened. Hind tibiae are orange. Males are 13-23 mm long, females 21-32 mm.
