One of the largest members of the genus; though variable in color, it is relatively easy to distinguish. Forewings and pronotum are uniform, lacking distinctive marks. Body is often olive green with contrasting black markings, though sometimes yellow or black. Hind femora bear black herringbone markings on the outer face, a feature that is evident even in the black members of this species. Hind tibiae are yellow. Males are 28-37 mm, females 34-50 mm.

In males, the cerci are large and boot-shaped. the furcula is barely visible.
