Occurrence Remarks: I found this beetle-like insect hanging out in an old water fountain near a park where I live. It’s roughly the size of a nickel with no identifiable reproductive structures. It has three pairs of legs with a brown colored head and body with several thin strips of lighter brown pigments. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, it belongs to the family Scarabaeidae, or scarab beetles. Being attracted to lights and moisture, that explains why this little guy was hanging out at the water fountain where a street light hangs right above it! https://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/may-beetles-june-bugs
