Maryjilda Wash near Safford, Graham Co., Arizona 29 August 2013 This dead moth was floating in a creek. It is Callistege intercalaris (Hodges #8740). This is in the Erebidae (formerly Noctuidae), fairly closely related to the Forage Looper Moth (Caenurgina erechtea, #8739): http://mothphotographersgroup.msstate.edu/species.php?hodges=8740 http://bugguide.net/node/view/72371 MPG map shows it to be characteristic of AZ and NM. BugGuide shows it flying in July-August. Thanks to Chuck Sexton for the moth ID.
